We are proud to share the inspiring contributions of Research Assistant Ayşegül Rosa Aksoy, from the Department of Physical Education and Sports Teacher Training, during the ISAPA 2025 Symposium held in Tralee, Ireland, from June 16–20, 2025.

The 25th ISAPA brought together professionals, researchers, policymakers, para-athletes, and advocates to advance adapted physical activity, inclusion, and diversity. Notably, the event featured a rich program that combined:

  1. The 25th International Symposium of Adapted Physical Activity (ISAPA) 2025
  2. International Symposium on Physical Activity and Visual Impairment or Deafblindness
  3. Mental Health Summit: Physical Activity, Nutrition, and Digital – Shifting the Dial for Better Outcomes
  4. UNESCO–ISAPA International Consultation: Policy Change for Disability Inclusion in Sport – Paris 2024 Call to Action Follow-Up
  5. Disability Sport, Physical Education, and Mental Health Trade Exhibition

Aksoy delivered an oral presentation titled: “Redeveloping for Accessibility: Applying a Design Thinking Approach to Create a Card Game for People with Visual Impairment.” She also took part in the 'UNESCO–ISAPA International Consultation' event, contributing to the discussions within the 'Policy and Data' working group.

As part of her ongoing commitment since 2017 as Chairperson of the New Emerging Scholars of Adapted Physical Activity (NESAPA), Aksoy also hosted the 4th NESAPA event within the Scientific Program, titled “Emerging Scholars’ Guide to the Galaxy of APA.” This session was designed specifically for early-career scholars for networking, mentorship, and broadening academic perspectives.

Beyond academic contributions, she, as a Board Member, attended the Board Meeting of the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (IFAPA), as well as the “International Education Steering Group for APA” meeting.

Serving as Coordinator of the International Volunteer Program (IVP)—a year-long initiative that brought together 14 international and 10 local-Irish volunteers, both with and without disabilities, from countries including Brazil, Canada, Jordan, Republic of Korea, The USA, Ukraine, and Ireland. The IVP participants supported parallel sessions, contributed to general organization, provided accessibility assistance, and led morning activities for attendees.

Finally, during the IFAPA General Assembly, open to all delegates, Aksoy reaffirmed her leadership as she was confirmed to continue her role as Chairperson for NESAPA. She also had the opportunity to network and initiate potential collaborations related to both the accessible game she is developing and her PhD dissertation.

We congratulate Ayşegül Rosa Aksoy on her dedicated work.
